Note:
The symbol rate corresponds to the number of state changes of the signal (steps) per second on a transmission network. Only if every signal event displays exactly 1 bit, the equation is valid: 1 Bd = 1 bit/s. But per signal change more than 1 bit can be transmitted. For n composed bits a set of 2n (2 to the power of n) different signals is required. Due to the exponentially increasing need of symbols, the number of bits per symbol to be transmitted, is mostly limited to approximately 10 bit/symbol as the upper limit.
