multiplexing in which several independent signals are allotted separate wavelengths for transmission over a common optical transmission medium
NOTE – Wavelength division multiplexing is a form of Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM). The use of a special term avoids confusion with the possible use of FDM in assembling the baseband signal which has to be carried over the optical link at one wavelength.
