Note 1 to entry: During live working, the electric arc is generated by gas ionization arising from an unintentional electrical conducting connection or electric breakdown between live parts or a live part and the earth path of an electrical installation or an electric device.

Note 2 to entry: During arc flash testing, the electric arc is initiated by the current through a fuse wire and its vaporization.
