multiplexing in which several independent signals are allotted separate wavelengths for transmission over a common optical transmission medium
NOTE – Wavelength division multiplexing is a form of frequency division multiplexing. The use of a special term avoids confusion with the possible use of frequency division multiplexing in assembling the baseband signal which has to be carried over the optical link by one wavelength.
